Who Am I?
My name is Kevin Patrick Kelly. I was born in Silver Springs, Maryland and was raised in New Jersey. In the very early 1980's, i was weaned on the punk rock, post-punk/art-rock scene in New York. After graduating from high school, I went on to study painting at the School of Visual Arts in New York City where I received a bachelors degree in fine arts. I sold my paintings on the street for many years in lower Manhattan. I have been inspired by many artists and artforms. One in particular was/is the work of The Bread and Puppet Theatre of Glover, Vermont. Several years back, I worked with Bread & Puppet as a volunteer/puppeteer in both Glover and New York. I gleaned alot of good things from their particular art, theatre and vision of the world. Throughout this whole period of my life, I was an active member of several punk/art/hardcore/post-punk bands that recorded and toured throughout the United States and Europe. In a surprising turn of events (inwardly and outwardly), I later went on to become a Catholic priest who joyfully works and lives amongst the immigrant community of New Brunswick Jersey (as well as with communities in El Salvador and Mexico). My artwork is a reflection of my personal history in communion with God and others.
